So l downloaded an english patch for the original shin megami tensei, and l feel violated. It says it's corrupted, so l read the documents attached. l'm not great at computer work, but as far as l can tell, l need to change the patch from .smc to .ips... or maybe the other way around. Knowing me though, it's probably kinda obvious, like maybe l have to use them in correlation with eachother? If so, how? Thank you so much for all who post.

Uhm, if you are talking about Shin Megami Tensei: Persona, they do have a remake, a MUCH BETTER remake for the PSP.
