Forum - Ha ha, I got infected with something apparently. = w =;;

I don't know what I did, but I somehow got infected with this vundo trojan early in the morning yesterday. I think I removed most traces of the villain, but in the process it took away my audio device, firewall, and functionality of my USB ports. Fortunately, I managed to restore the USB ports and audio, but my firewall's still disabled with no way to return it to it's original state. I think I'm going to pop in my repair CD after reading some more about it. Whoo.

The one time I went online without a firewall, I got so much malware that I had to replace the computer. Good luck.

I got the vundo trojan before, and believe me, it was a pain to remove. I couldn't get on any website, but my internet still worked -_-

I got it from one of the torrents I downloaded of a Naruto episode I believe.

Thanks, TOR. I think my computer's good to go now. Just finished patching up the last of my problems an hour ago.

I wasn't getting the nastiest effects I've read about, but I was definitely getting annoying and potentially dangerous symptoms like advertisement for fake anti-virus programs, disabled firewall, no sound, and unusable USB ports.

I really don't know how I got the infection since I don't view anything remotely questionable... oh well. It's solved for now. :3

The worst Virus/trojan I have ever got is one that makes a popup on startup and tells me a .dll file could not be found.

I got that once. I had to do a full system restore.

Prolly that's what I got in October. My PC started running slow and... let's say nothing worked.

Is that what that is? I've been getting that message for months...even got some new anti-virus/trojan/spyware/etc software and it's still there. That may be one of the reasons my computer runs slower than a turtle.

IIRC, the name of the file is USER32.dll . It's a nasty virus. First I got BSOD's with a file the didn't exist (EagleNT.sys), then my whole laptop went backshit and I couldn't open anything. I had to reinstall Windows and reformat the whole computer.

I guess a lot of people got it a few months ago.

My friend got it too, but neither of us have been affected. :\

It doesn't do anything to me, it's just annoying. When I discovered he had it, I assumed it had something to do with FireFox, since I doubt we visit the same sites. >_>

I'm still not sure where the hell it came from.

I have at least two customers a day with your problem:

Download ComboFix as well and here is a manual

Also install, update, UPDATE FIRST and scan with:
Spybot S&D
Malwarebytes

These remove pretty much anything you can think of, also you should get a decent anti-Virus, if you have Norton or McAfee then uninstall it - if it worked, you wouldn't have this in the first place. Along with regular scans of the above, there are various anti-viruses that are good, most cost money, but some are free:

AVG is good, very good infact. There are some nay-sayers, but as someone who does this for a living, it works far better than you'd think. If you download Kaspersky and install it as a Beta you can use it for free, but a lot of features are disabled and to update it, you might just want to go take a nap, it's extremely slow.

All those above will solve all of your problems and ones you didn't know about. People who don't have any anti-virus and say things like "I've never had a virus/spyware", they're fucking stupid. Even I use protection, even though I've managed to not get infected in over a decade, it does happen to people many, many different ways - opening email attachments isn't the only way to get infected.

I update and use S&D religiously, though I can't remember the last time I've found anything.

I have Spyware Doctor with AntiVirus which does find crap now and then, though I'm always paranoid that it's missing a lot, so I'll try that malwarebytes.

A couple years ago on someone's recommendation I got Sygate for my firewall, which I haven't been having issues with.

Since you know a lot about that stuff, are the latter two programs I mentioned worth anything or not?

Spyware Doctor is okay, but there are better ones like Spybot S&D. AntiVirus is actually spyware and you should use combofix (as I linked in my original reply) to get rid of that. Sygate is also okay, but if you have a router/physical firewall, then you don't really need it unless you're worried about potential out going connections - such as when you pirate something and don't want it calling home.

Malware doesn't infect your BIOS or anything like that, simply re-installing windows after a format would have solved your problem.
